BRINKMAN, CHARLES R. III, GARY H. JOHNSON, AND N. S. ~SSALI. Hemodynamic effects of bradycardia in the fetal lamb. Am. J. Physiol. 223(6) : 1465-1469. 1972.-The hemodynamic impact of induced cardiac deceleration were studied in near-term fetal lamb. Vagal stimulation resulted in rhythmic or arrhythmic bradycardia, each type having somewhat different effects on arterial pressure, stroke volume, and on ascending aortic, main pulmonary artery, and ductus arteriosus flows. Rhythmic bradycardia was accompanied by reciprocal changes in stroke volume so that the ventricular output was not altered appreciably. During arrhythmic bradycardia, the stroke volume also increased, but the increment was insufficient to prevent a decrease in ventricular output. Rhythmic bradycardia reading 30y0 of control resulted in only 10 7* decrease in effective cardiac output and systemic arterial pressure. With arrhythmic bradycardia of the same degree (307,), the effective cardiac output and arterial pressure both fell by approximately 307& It was concluded that: 1) the cardiac rhythm has a great influence upon the hemodynamic effects of fetal bradycardia, and 2) that the fetal heart appears to follow the FrankStarling relationship.

Hemodynamic changes in fetal lamb in uteroin response to asphyxia, hypoxia, and hypercapnia.
• "When fetaJ asphyxia or hypoxia is induced by reduction of uterine and umbilical circulations oi" by administration of a gas mixture of low oxygen content to the mother, there is an increase in the fetal arterial pressure." The effects on the fetal heart rate appear to be variable. Bradycardia has been observed by several investigators.*~ Born et al. noted that the changes in heart rate depen...
متن کاملThe Effect of Prophylactic Infusion of Combined Ephedrin and Phenylephrine on Maternal Hemodynamic after Spinal Anesthesia for Cesarean Section: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Several techniques have been proposed to prevent hypotension in obstetric patients. Ephedrine and phenylephrine are individually used to prevent maternal hypotension; however, each has its own drawbacks. Some researchers have reported that the infusion of combined ephedrine and phenylephrine immediately after spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery reduces the incidence of maternal hypotension....
متن کاملAnesthetic techniques for fetal surgery: effects of maternal anesthesia on intraoperative fetal outcomes in a sheep model.
BACKGROUND Use of high-dose inhalational anesthesia during open fetal surgery may induce maternal-fetal hemodynamic instability and fetal myocardial depression. The authors' preliminary human retrospective study demonstrated less fetal bradycardia and left ventricular systolic dysfunction with lower dose desflurane supplemented with propofol and remifentanil IV anesthesia (SIVA). In this animal...
متن کاملImportance of Close Follow-Up in the Fetus with Premature Atrial Contractions Accompanied by Atrial Septal Aneurysm: A Case Report
Rhythms that derive from parts of atria other than the sinus node are called premature atrial contractions (PACs). Vast majority of fetal PACs are idiopathic. Fetal PACs usually have a good prognosis and disappear spontaneously during pregnancy or after delivery. Development of fetal tachycardia or fetal bradycardia is rarely reported during follow-up of fetuses diagnosed with PACs. To the best...
متن کاملComparison of the Effect of Intrathecal Bupivacaine with Intrathecal Ropivacaine on Hemodynamic of Patients under Elective Caesarean Section
Background and Objectives: The correct management of delivery and anesthesia hs important for maternal and fetal health outcome during cesarean section. The aim of this study was to compare the effect os spinal anesthesia with bupivacaine and ropivacaine on the hemodynamic parameters of pregnant women during cesarean section. Methods: This study was a randomized double blinded clinical trial o...
